Latest NewsEar DiseaseThe first chance is the best chance to treat external ear diseaseExternal ear disease quickly develops into a vicious cycle if left untreated, meaning that the longer or more frequently your pet has ear disease, the harder it is going to be to successfully treat. The cycle begins with the initial cause making your pet itch and scratch at their ears. This leads to physical damage of the external ear canal and allows bacteria and fungi to infect. The bacteria and fungi then lead to further itching and scratching and thus the vicious cycle is formed. What signs should I look out for? If the ears are either waxy, dirty, smelly, or if your animal is scratching at their ears/head or rubbing their head on the ground, then your animal may have external ear disease. If you notice any of them it is important that you seek the advice of your vet immediately. Bear in mind that the first chance to treat external ear disease is the best chance and that your vet will be able to determine the best course of treatment for your pet. |
